Scope:

The purpose of this SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) is to establish criteria for the installation and stowage of emergency equipment in the cabin to ensure that the equipment is available and accessible. The goal is to promote expedient access to equipment by encouraging standardization and reducing reorientation of crewmembers to alternate stowage provisions when changing types, models, and/or series of transport aircraft within an operator's fleet.

Rationale:

This document is being revised to expand the subject of emergency equipment standardization and incorporate elements of ARP496 Stowage of Cabin Emergency Flotation Equipment. ARP496 will be cancelled upon publication of ARP997 Revision C. This document also includes formatting changes as contained in the SAE AEROSPACE TECHNICAL REPORT STYLE MANUAL, NOVEMBER 2005.
