WIP
J2487
This SAE Recommended Practice is intended as the definition of a standard test, but may be subject to frequent change to keep pace with experience and technical advances. This should be kept in mind when considering its use. The SAE No. 2 Friction Test Machine is used to evaluate the friction characteristics of automatic transmission plate clutches with automotive transmission fluids. It can also be used to conduct durability tests on wet friction systems. The specific purpose of this document is to define a 3600 r/min Stepped Power Test for the evaluation of wet friction system performance variation as a function of power level. This procedure uses an initial engagement speed of 3600 r/min and is intended as a standard procedure for common use by both suppliers and end users. The only variables selected by the supplier or user of the friction system are: a. Friction Material b. Fluid c.

This SAE Recommended Practice is intended as the definition of a standard test, which may be subject to frequent change to keep pace with experience and technical advances. This should be kept in mind when considering its use.

The SAE No. 2 Friction Test Machine is used to evaluate the friction characteristics of automatic transmission plate clutches with automotive transmission fluids. It can also be used to conduct durability tests on wet friction systems.

The specific purpose of this document is to define a μPVT Test for the evaluation of the variation of wet friction system performance as a function of speed, temperature, and pressure. This procedure is intended as a standard for both suppliers and end users.

The only variables selected by the supplier or user of the friction system are: a. Friction Material; b. Fluid; and c. Reaction Plates.

These three variables must be clearly identified when reporting the results of this test.

Measurement of Exterior Sound Levels for Heavy Trucks Under Stationary Conditions

2018-05-24
WIP
J1096
This SAE Recommended Practice establishes the test procedure, environment, and instrumentation for determining the maximum exterior sound level of highway motor trucks and truck tractors over 4540 kg gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) with governed engines under stationary vehicle conditions. The basic procedure involves a full throttle engine acceleration and a closed throttle deceleration with the engine inertia as the load.

Measurement of Interior Sound Levels of Light Vehicles

2018-05-24
WIP
J1477
This SAE Recommended Practice establishes the test procedure, environment, instrumentation, and data analyses for comparing interior sound level of passenger cars, multipurpose vehicles, and light trucks having gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 4540 kg (10 000 lb) or less. The test procedure is characterized by having fixed initial conditions (specified initial vehicle speed and gear selection at the starting point on the test site) to obtain vehicle interior sound measurement during road load operation over various road surfaces at specified constant speeds. The measurement data so derived is useful for vehicle engineering development and analysis.

Compression and Recovery of Insulation Paddings

2018-05-24
WIP
J1352
This test method is applicable for determining the relative compression and recovery of fibrous insulation padding materials. 1.1 Purpose The purpose of this test method is to establish a means of measuring the ability of fibrous insulation materials to resist compression and recover after being compressed, dry or wet. It should be noted that there are several test methods. These methods have been found necessary for different loading applications, variation in surface density of the padding materials and the requirements of different vehicle manufacturers. The results of these test methods cannot be correlated directly to each other. The material specification should indicate which test is necessary for a particular application.
