This SAE standard outlines the steps and known accepted methodologies and standards for linking Model V&V with model based product reliability assessments. The standard’s main emphasis is that quantified values for Model-based product reliability must be accompanied by a quantified confidence value if the users of the model wish to claim use of a “Verified and Validated” model, and if they wish to further link into business and investment decisions that are informed by quantitative second-order risk and benefit cost considerations.

The design and location of rear-viewing mirrors or systems, and the presentation of the rear view to the driver can best be achieved if the designer and the engineer have adequate references available on the physiological functions of head and eye movements and on the perceptual capabilities of the human visual system. The following information and charts are provided for this purpose. For more complete information of the relationship of vision to forward vision, see SAE SP-279.

This document establishes standard graphical symbols and color conventions for use in either still (static) or animated graphics used for communicating service information. This document’s purpose is to communicate conventions for using those symbols and colors to accurately and consistently communicate intended information via graphics-based documentation. These practices are intended for use in service procedures, assembly instructions, training materials, and similar applications when trying to minimize the amount of human natural language text used within the document. The still and animated graphical conventions referenced should support effective communication via paper and “traditional” electronic media. The conventions can also extend to documenting via additional electronic delivery paradigms such as Augmented Reality (AR).

This Recommended Practice is derived from the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 135 vehicle test protocol as a single-ended inertia-dynamometer test procedure. It measures brake output, friction material effectiveness, and corner performance in a controlled and repeatable environment. The test procedure also includes optional sections for parking brake output performance for rear brakes. It is applicable to brake corners from vehicles covered by the FMVSS 135 when using the appropriate brake hardware and test parameters. This procedure is applicable to all passenger cars and light trucks up to 3500 kg of GVWR.

This standard will serve to re-work and extend the existing SAE J2735 message elements in order to include additional travel and roadway information from the infrastructure to enhance safety awareness and promote the exchange and transfer of such messages types between vehicles and the infrastructure (V2I). Fundamentally this document will outline the needs and detail the system requirements to support a variety of use cases linking to the J2735 effort as other J2945/x documents do. The initial scope will be to revise the structure of the existing “TIM” message to reflect the lessons learned from the various deployment activities such as the BIM developed by an automotive OEM consortium. The objective is to improve the general functionality of the message set in key areas such as message linking, content segmentation, message forwarding within a security framework, and new application areas beyond what is enabled by the TIM.

This SAE Recommended Practice establishes a rating scale for subjective evaluation of vehicle ride and handling. The scale is applicable for the evaluation of specific vehicle ride and handling properties, for specified maneuvers, road characteristics and driving conditions, on proving ground and public roads. The validity of the evaluation is restricted to the individual ride and handling disciplines defined by these maneuvers and to the particular combination of conditions of the vehicle (e.g., equipment, degree of maintenance) and of the environment (e.g., road, weather). This rating scale may not be suitable for some applications, such as specific types of ride or handling qualities, driver populations and market segments, or for correlating with objective measures. Appendix A - Other Scales discusses rating scales that better suit such applications.

This SAE Recommended Practice defines a method for evaluating the near field electric or magnetic component of the electromagnetic field at the surface of an integrated circuit (IC). This technique is capable of providing a detailed pattern of the RF sources internal to the IC. The resolution of the pattern is determined by the characteristics of the probes used and the precision of the mechanical probe positioner. The method is usable over the 10 MHz to 3 GHz frequency range with existing probe technology. The probe is mechanically scanned according to a programmed pattern in a plane parallel or perpendicular to the IC surface and the data is computer processed to provide a color-enhanced representation of field strength at the scan frequency. This procedure is applicable to measurements from an IC mounted on any circuit board that is accessible to the scan probe. For comparisons, the standardized test board shall be used.
