Four-, Five-, and Eight-Conductor Electrical Connectors for Automotive Type Trailers

2018-08-23
WIP
J1239
This SAE Recommended Practice covers the wiring and rectangularly shaped connector standards for all types of trailers whose gross weight does not exceed 4540 kg (10 000 lb). These trailers are grouped in SAE J684 with running light circuit loads not to exceed 7.5 A per circuit. This document provides circuits for lighting, electric brakes, trailer battery charging, and an auxiliary circuit color code and protection for the wiring from hazards or short circuits. Color code is compatible with SAE J560 and ISO 1724-1980(E).

Connections for High Voltage On-Board Road Vehicle Electrical Wiring Harnesses - Test Methods and General Performance Requirements

2018-08-23
WIP
J1742
SCOPE Procedures included within this specification are intended to cover performance testing at all phases of development, production, and field analysis of electrical terminals, connectors, and components that constitute the electrical connection systems in high power (20 V to 600 V and/or >80 A) road vehicle applications. These procedures are applicable only to terminals used for In-Line, Header, and Device Connectors and for cable sizes up to 120 mm2 (4/0). In cases where power levels are mixed in the same connector, (i.e. sensing or normal 14.5 V system circuits with High Power Contacts) the High Power Contacts must pass SAE J1742 requirements, and all other contacts must pass SAE J2223-2 requirements. The connection system (housing and high power contacts) shall meet SAE J1742 requirements. The requirements and procedures in this document are not intended for connections internal to electrical/electronic modules or complete subassemblies.

Specification for O-Ring Face Seal Connectors: Part 2 - Requirements, Dimensions, and Tests for Steel Unions, Bulkheads, Swivels, Braze Sleeves, Braze-on Tube Ends, Caps, and Connectors with ISO 6149-2 Metric Stud Ends and ISO 6162 4-Bolt Flange Heads

2018-08-23
WIP
J1453/2
The three parts of SAE J1453 cover material, dimensional, and performance requirements of steel O-ring face seal (ORFS) connectors for tubing and the O-ring face seal interface and nut portion of hose stem assemblies for nominal tube diameters of 6 mm through 38 mm and for nominal hose diameters 6.3 mm through 38 mm. SAE J1453-2 covers the requirements for “metric based” O-ring face seal connectors to metric stud ends along with the associated adapters, bulkhead and union connectors. Metric hex wrenching flats are used throughout this standard.

Methods for Determining Physical Properties of Polymeric Materials Exposed to Hydrocarbon Fuels or Their Surrogates and Their Blends with Oxygenated Additives

2018-08-13
CURRENT
J1748_201808
This SAE Recommended Practice applies to determining worst-case fuel or test fluid surrogate, conditioning test specimens in worst-case fuel(s)/surrogate(s) prior to testing, individual tests for properties of polymeric materials exposed to oxygenate fuel/surrogate mixtures with additives. The determination of equilibrium, as well as typical calculations are also covered.

Test Procedure to Determine the Hydrocarbon Losses from Fuel Tubes, Hoses, Fittings, and Fuel Line Assemblies by Recirculation

2018-08-13
WIP
J1737
This SAE Recommended Practice is intended for the determination of the losses of hydrocarbon fluids, by permeation through component walls as well as through 'microleaks' at interfaces of assembled components while controlling temperature and pressure independently of each other. This is achieved in a recirculating system in which liquids which are transported through walls and joints are collected by a controlled flow of nitrogen (dry) and adsorbed by activated charcoal.

Sound Level for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks

2018-08-10
CURRENT
J986_201808
This SAE Standard establishes the test procedure, environment, and instrumentation for determining the exterior sound level for passenger cars, multipurpose vehicles, and light trucks having a gross vehicle mass rating of 4540 kg or less. The test procedure is characterized by having fixed initial conditions, i.e., an as-specified initial vehicle speed and gear selection at a fixed start point on the test site. Full-throttle acceleration and closed-throttle deceleration of the vehicle are included in this procedure. Sound levels determined in accordance with this document are dependent on the performance capability of the test vehicle, as influenced by power-to-mass ratio and overall powertrain gear ratio.

Vibration Testing of Electric Vehicle Batteries

2018-08-09
WIP
J2380
This SAE Recommended Practice describes the vibration durability testing of a single battery (test unit) consisting of either an electric vehicle battery module or an electric vehicle battery pack. For statistical purposes, multiple samples would normally be subjected to such testing. Additionally, some test units may be subjected to life cycle testing (either after or during vibration testing) to determine the effects of vibration on battery life. Such life testing is not described in this procedure; SAE J2288 may be used for this purpose as applicable. Finally, impact testing, such as crash and pothole, is not included in this procedure.
