This SAE Information Report is a source of information concerning the basic properties of engine coolants which are satisfactory for use in internal combustion engines. Engine coolant concentrate (antifreeze) must provide adequate corrosion protection, lower the freezing point, and raise the boiling point of the engine coolant. This Recommended Practice utilizes existing industry standards to identify a common physical interface and define the protocols necessary to retrieve records stored by light duty vehicle Event Data Recorders (EDRs). To accomplish this, the SAE J1962 Diagnostic Connector is designated as the primary physical interface for EDR Retrieval Tools. This Recommended Practice is intended to be used for the development of EDR Retrieval Tools. Retrieval tools are intended to interface with light duty vehicles and to produce EDR Record Reports with data element formats specified by SAE J1698-1. Limitations: This Recommend Practice specifies how EDR records should be imaged, translated, and reported by EDR Retrieval Tools. It does not specify how EDR records are recorded and stored by individual vehicles.
This SAE Recommended Practice describes a test method for determining properties of a non-rolling tire quasi-statically enveloping either a set of triangular cleats or a single step cleat. In the case of the triangular cleats the normal force and vertical deflection of the non-rolling tire are determined. In the case of the step cleats the normal force, longitudinal force, and vertical deflection of the non-rolling tire are determined. The method applies to any tire so long as the equipment is properly sized to correctly conduct the measurements for the intended test tire.1 The data are intended for use in determining parameters for road load models and for comparative evaluations of the measured properties in research and development. NOTE: Herein, road load models are models for predicting forces applied to the vehicle spindles during operation over irregular pavements. Within the context of this document, forces applied to the pavement are not considered.
