Scope:

This SAE Information Practice describes numerical methods used to process impact test data. Typically used calculations and algorithms are described. For those calculations that are described in other sources, the relevant documents are referenced.

Rationale:

The committee reviewed this Recommended Practice to determine what changes were necessary to include the set of calculations, methods, and indexes that are typically calculated by labs performing impact tests. Additionally, the title and scope of the document were changed to remove any unfounded implication that this document includes further analyses of the calculation results for the purpose of predicting injury.
