Guide to Temperature Monitoring in Aircraft Gas Turbine Engines

Scope:

This Aerospace Information Report (AIR) provides an overview of temperature measurement for engine monitoring systems in various areas of aircraft gas turbine engines while focusing on current usage and methods, systems, selection criteria, and types of hardware. This document emphasizes temperature monitoring for diagnostics and condition monitoring purposes. The purpose of this AIR is to provide information and guidance on the selection and use of aircraft turbine engine temperature monitoring systems and elements.

Rationale:

In order to further reduce the quantity of documents owned by the E32 committee the rationale for this project is to combine the content of AIR1900 and AIR46. An existing project to reduce the number of temperature measurement related documents from eight to two (ARP464, ARP465, ARP485 into AIR1900 and ARP690, ARP691 and AIR65 into AIR46) will be presented for ballot shortly, but it was considered by the E32 committee (at the Fall 2010 committee meeting) that at present there is not enough detail on all temperature measurement types within AIR1900 to enable the incorporation of AIR46, which would result in an in-balance in the document towards thermocouples. In summary, the rational for this project request is to address that imbalance and combine the two documents (AIR1900 and AIR46) following the approval of the existing project to reduce the number of temperature measurement documents from eight to two.
