Numerical Modeling Techniques for Jet Engine Test Cell Aerodynamics

Scope:

This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) has been written for individuals associated with ground level testing of turbofan and turbojet engines and particularly for those who might be interested in investigating the performance characteristics of a new test cell design or of proposed modifications to an existing test cell by means of numerical modeling and simulation.

Rationale:

As a complement to SAE AIR4827, this document presents best practices in the domain of numerical aerodynamic analysis tools for determining enclosed test cell aerodynamic performance. Correlated and compared to experimental systems, numerical tools represent an ideal way to reinforce the confidence in predicted performance while allowing for more cost effective and timely aerodynamic analysis.
