The scope of this document is limited to the discussion of the performance life of aerospace hose assemblies. By definition, hose assembly life may only be evaluated on the basis of design and application. This means the only meaningful evaluation can be conducted on the basis of hose assembly part number and its intended application.
The purpose of AIRXXXX is to define a means for evaluating performance life criteria such as Mean Time between Failure, Mean Time between Replacement. There is no formal system for establishing the measurement for Mean Time between Failures (MTBF.) This is because there no formal system for the reporting of removal and replacement of hose assemblies by the user. The life of an aerospace hose assembly is directly tied to the application. For example, a standard hose assembly part number such as AS115-08C0240 may be used as a hydraulic pressure line; as a hydraulic return line; as a hot oil lubrication line; or as a fuel line. Each of these applications may have a different MTBF; and an MTBF will have to be established for each application. It is important to make a valid connection for the data being collected between the part number and the application.
