Title: Test Slabs, Fluoroelastomer (FKM), 70 to 80 Hardness, for Improved Gas Turbine Engine Oil Compatibility
Issuing Committee:
Ams Ce Elastomers Committee
Scope:
This specification covers a high temperature, compression set and fluid resistant fluorocarbon (FKM) rubber stock in the form of molded test slabs. Material has improved low temperature sealing (-30°C Tg) and improved compatibility to a variety of advanced gas turbine engine oils (HTS-type). In application, these reference slabs would be an extension of AMS 3217A (Standard Elastomer Stocks) - AMS 3217/8A is proposed.
Rationale:
There is an industry need to provide a reference elastomer with demonstrated compatibility to a variety of gas turbine engine oils, including higher thermo-oxidative stability (HTS) lubricants, including those conforming to MIL-PRF-23699 Class HTS, MIL-PRF-7808 Grade 4 and AS5780 Class HPC, at elevated temperature (392 °F / 200 °C).
