This document describes technical approaches that can be applied to show that proposed oxygen equipment and systems achieve suitable oxygenation in users. These approaches can be used to demonstrate that items under test meet performance criteria sufficient to justify certification for use in aircraft applications.
Since the first performance standards for aircraft oxygen equipment were established, considerable advances in scientific instrumentation and in understanding of human physiology have occurred. Some recent aircraft programs have employed certification methods different than prior efforts, utilizing these technical advances. This document will establish an explicit, clearly defined basis that can be drawn upon in proposing and accepting appropriate technical approaches to demonstrate oxygen equipment capabilities.
