IMPLEMENTATION OF IVHM, HUMAN FACTORS AND SAFETY IMPLICATIONS

Scope:

This Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) offers best practice regarding the implementation of IVHM systems taking into account Human Factors, both the vehicle crew and the maintenance staff. The document will include considerations regarding both military and civil fixed wing aircraft. Safety implications will also be addressed.

Rationale:

Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM) systems are increasingly being implemented, in whole or in part, on aerospace vehicles. These systems are to a large extent automatic, giving diagnostic and prognostic information regarding the vehicle. The output ideally gives non-ambiguous instructions to both the vehicle operator and the maintenance staff. It is essential that the human beings in the loop correctly carry out the necessary instructions so as to avoid unexpected and potentially dangerous situations. This document provides guidelines to properly integrate the human being into the IVHM system.
