The scope of this IR document is to provide a review of state-of-the-art engineering methods for reliability prediction in discrete complex stochastic ystems. The document discusses the main concepts and stochastic models that can be applied to complex system reliability predictions. It makes comparisons between traditional fault tree analysis approaches and more advanced Markov, Bayesian and stochastic Petri networks approaches. Guidelines on how to approach system modeling are are also included.
There is a need in industry on better understanding of the system reliability prediction approaches and their application to complex vehicle systems.
