Wireless Power Transfer of Heavy Duty Plug-In Electric Vehicles and Positioning Communication

Scope:

TIR SAE J2954/2 establishes an industry-wide specification guideline that defines acceptable criteria for the interoperability, electromagnetic compatibility, minimum performance, safety and testing for wireless power transfer (WPT) of electric and plug-in electric heavy-duty vehicles.

Rationale:

There are significant differences between Power Classes of Light Duty (3.7-22kW) in SAE TIR J2954 and TIR J2954/2, Heavy Duty (HD) (up to 200kW) vehicles for wireless charging. For this reason a separate HD document was created to address bus and rail applications of WPT. Further differences from HD to LD for WPTare are listed as follows: -Frequencies tend to be lower because of switching losses -Parking location geometry differences with LD case -Primary alignment methods will probably be different. -Vehicle geometry considerations -Possible issues with exposure to high field levels requiring physical barriers on vehicles or charging areas -Ground clearances are greater so nature of foreign objects and detection challenges are different than LD case -EMC - issues of interference within the vehicle and between vehicles will differ from the LD case
