Optical Warning Devices for Authorized Emergency, Maintenance, and Service Vehicles

Scope:

This document provides design guidelines, test procedure references, and performance requirements for omnidirectional and selective coverage optical warning devices used on authorized emergency, maintenance and service vehicles. It is intended to apply to, but is not limited to, surface land vehicles.

Rationale:

Based on the responses to a recent survey done by the Emwergency Warning Lights and Devices EMC Task Force, evaluating emergency warning lights for electro-magnetic compatibility is commonly done by manufacturers of this equipment and required by end users. This document is being revised to incorporate current recommended practice electro-magnetic compatibility requirements and/or guidelines.
